This course is intended for GIZ staff only:

  • You are a Country Director, Portfolio Manager, Head of Programme, Head of Unit or have a similar position in the field structure
  • You deal with EU topics and / or cooperate with the EU Delegation as part of your position.

Objectives and Content

In this course, you will receive valuable information relating to the cooperation with the EU and practical knowledge for your strategical work and the preparation of EU co-financing agreements.

You will acquire knowledge on the following topics:-

Day 1

  • Strategic importance of the EU for GIZ's business
  • Political goals of the EU in the international cooperation and development cooperation
  • Relevant EU players and institutions
  • Programming and financing instruments

Day 2

  • Preparation process of EU co-financing agreements
  • Stakeholders, perspectives and management modes
  • Contractual aspects of Delegated Cooperation


  • Technical input, presentations and information units
  • Discussion with practical examples
  • Exchange and reflection among colleagues
  • Group work

  • for this training course, you should have previous experience of working in cooperation with the EU.
  • due to the large demand and to ensure a good mix of participants, a final participant selection is made . You will receive a confirmation by AIZ.
  • for questions related to commercial aspects of co-financing, we recommend the course “Co-financing in practice”. The next “Co-financing in practice” course is offered in Bangkok from 8th until 12th of April.
